Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

Security Forces, Inc. provides the Security Forces, Inc. (SFI) and SFI – Whelan Security, LLC. Physical Security Services. The Technology is a set of services meant to deter, prevent, detect, alert, and respond to a variety of security threats. The Technology is provided to a variety of sectors including: commercial real estate, public utilities, and financial institutions. It consists of the following: Project Management, a wide array of Security Services, and Consulting Services. The Technology also includes the processes to recruit, train, and retain qualified candidates to implement the Technology.


Phoenix International, Ltd.: MagnumSpike! Tire Deflation System

Phoenix International, Ltd. provides the MagnumSpike! Tire Deflation System. The Technology is a portable tire deflation system composed of a lattice of metal alloy spikes. It is designed to stop a threatening moving vehicle by puncturing the tires making control more difficult. It comes in five lengths and can be manually deployed to span the width of a roadway. The Technology also includes user training, manufacturing processes and procedures, spare parts, quality assurance/control methods, safety guidelines, and all technical documentation.


Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC): Security System Integration Services

The Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) provides the Security System Integration Services. The Technology is provided to the government at all levels, as well as port authorities, airports, and other critical infrastructures. The Technology consists of: Site Surveys and Security Needs Assessments, System Design, Engineering & Integration Services, Equipment Analysis & Selection Process, Operations and Maintenance Services, and selection of Subcontractors. All used to provide a real-time integrated security system that can be networked into a customer’s existing protocols. The Technology also includes all related technical documentation, manuals, customer training, and qualified personnel.


Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc.: CT-80XL EDS

Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc. provides the CT-80XL EDS. The Technology is used to move loaded baggage by way of a conveyor belt into a tunnel where it is scanned for explosives by a computed tomography (CT) array. The scanning process consists of several stages: ToTALScan, Static CT Slice, X-ray Scan, SnapScan, and Targeted Zoom. This Technology is a variant of an existing SAFETY Act covered device modified to work with larger objects.


Andrews International, Inc.: Physical Security Services for Shopping Centers

Andrews International, Inc. provides Physical Security Services for Shopping Centers. The Technology is a set of services designed to monitor access to such shopping centers, prevent unauthorized entry, and mitigate terrorist incidents. Elements of the Technology may include all or some of the following: Interior and exterior stationary and mobile patrols, Emergency response reporting, Alarm and CCTV monitoring and response, surveillance, and Disaster and emergency response services. The Technology also includes training programs, training manuals, technical manuals, and training bulletins.


Securitas Holdings, Inc., Protective Services

Securitas Holdings, Inc., provides Protective Services. The Technology is a regiment for protection professionals in threat assessment and protective skills training. It is designed to investigate and assess a Principal’s risk and vulnerability, and develop and implement a strategy that would enhance the Principal’s overall security. The three major components of the Technology are: Assessment of threats, Development of a security plan, and Protection duties.


Professional Security Consultants (PSC), Inc.: PSC Security Guard Services for Commercial Shopping Malls

Professional Security Consultants (PSC), Inc. provides the PSC Security Guard Services for Commercial Shopping Malls. PSC provides unarmed security personnel and security program management for the purpose of providing enhanced protection, deterrence, and response to terrorist acts against shopping centers. The services include: the provision and duties of the unarmed security officers, security dispatchers, security supervisors, and security directors, training, emergency response, and operation of the CASE Global system and Centralized Command Center. The Technology also includes procedures for recruiting, screening, and hiring of employees.


National Fire Protection Association (NFPA): NFPA Codes and Standards Development Process

The National Fire Protection Association provides the NFPA Codes and Standards Development Process (NFPA). The Technology is a means of producing standards and codes which have an association with preventing, detecting, identifying, or deterring Acts of Terrorism or limiting the damage such attacks might cause. The NFPA is accredited as a Standards Development Organization (SDO) by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Technology is developed in accordance with ANSI guidance.


The Dow Chemical Company: Rail Transportation Security Services

The Dow Chemical Company provides Rail Transportation Security Services. The Technology is a set of services meant to advance the safety and security of products and materials transported by rail and the communities through which such products and materials pass. The Technology has the following components: Assessment of Rail Transportation Security Threats and Vulnerabilities through Comprehensive Risk Management System, Rail Transportation Security Countermeasures and Actions, Qualified Personnel and Training, Audits and Validations, and Emergency Preparedness and Community Response.


Smiths Detection, Inc.: IONSCAN 400B

Smiths Detection, Inc. provides the IONSCAN 400B. The Technology is a desktop explosive and narcotics trace detection system. Samples are collected by wiping the surface of a material or object with a swab. The swab is then analyzed by the Technology, and if a substance of interest is detected, the software triggers and alarm to alert the operator. The Technology also includes a manufacturer’s warranty, operator’s manual, and operator and technical training.
