Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

American Science & Engineering, Inc. Approved: February 10, 2023 | Expires: February 28, 2028 Rapiscan Systems provides Gemini X-ray inspection systems. The Technology is a line of X-ray inspection systems that use transmission and backscatter scanning methods to inspect parcels, packages, luggage, bags, containers and other similarly sized objects for organic and inorganic anomalies. The determination of whether an anomaly is a threat is dependent on the customer’s concept of operations, and outside the scope of the Technology.
American Science & Engineering, Inc. Approved: April 22, 2021 | Expires: April 30, 2026 Rapiscan Systems, Inc., provides Z Portal X-Ray System. The Technology is device that uses backscatter and forwardscatter X-Ray imaging techniques to scan vehicles and produce images of the contents. The Technology also includes installation, training, maintenance, relevant documentation, and personnel qualifications.
American Science & Engineering, Inc. Approved: September 26, 2017 | Expires: October 31, 2022 American Science and Engineering, Inc. ("AS&E") provides the Mini Z® (the "Technology"). The Technology is hand-held screening system, which uses X-rays to detect threats such as organic material, plastic guns, ceramic knives, and explosives. The Technology also includes a 2-day training course, technical documentation and manuals, and maintenance and warranty services.
American Science & Engineering, Inc. Approved: April 20, 2017 | Expires: May 31, 2022 American Science & Engineering, Inc. provides X-ray Inspection Systems (the “Technology”). The Technology is a line of devices based on the same core technology designed to facilitate inspection of parcels, cargo, and vehicles for terrorist threats. The Technology also includes system installation and integration; operation and maintenance training; warranty and maintenance services; spare and replacement parts; technical manuals and documentation; software and hardware upgrades; and the qualifications of the personnel who perform these services.
American Science & Engineering, Inc. Approved: December 31, 2013 | Expires: January 31, 2019 American Science and Engineering, Inc. provides the Z Portal (the “Technology”). The Technology is an X-ray based cargo and vehicle screening and inspection system. The Technology includes installation; operator, maintenance, and “train the trainer” training; warranty and maintenance services; spare parts; technical manuals and documentation; and the qualifications of the personnel who perform these services.
