Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

Rapiscan Systems, Inc. provides the Z Backscatter Van (ZBV®). The Technology consists of standoff mobile X-ray inspection systems designed to scan moving vehicles, cargo, and similar sized objects for suspicious objects using stationary or drive-by modes. The Technology also includes installation, training, maintenance, relevant documentation, and personnel qualifications.

American Science and Engineering, Inc. ("AS&E") provides the Mini Z® (the "Technology"). The Technology is hand-held screening system, which uses X-rays to detect threats such as organic material, plastic guns, ceramic knives, and explosives. The Technology also includes a 2-day training course, technical documentation and manuals, and maintenance and warranty services.

American Science and Engineering, Inc. provides SmartCheck™ Advanced Personnel Screening (“APS”) System (the “Technology”). The Technology is designed to safely and quickly detect threats and contraband hidden under a person’s clothing using non-intrusive backscatter X-ray technology. The Technology contains an Automated Threat Recognition algorithm to automatically detect both metallic and non-metallic weapons, such as handguns and knives, as well as explosives, drugs, and other contraband. The Technology includes installation, training, warranty and maintenance services that may be included in the sale of the Technology or as a stand-alone service offering.

American Science and Engineering, Inc. provides the Z Portal (the “Technology”). The Technology is an X-ray based cargo and vehicle screening and inspection system. The Technology includes installation; operator, maintenance, and “train the trainer” training; warranty and maintenance services; spare parts; technical manuals and documentation; and the qualifications of the personnel who perform these services.

The Technology is a line of devices based on the same core technology designed to facilitate inspection of parcels, cargo, and vehicles for terrorist threats. The Technology also includes installation, training, warranty and maintenance services, spare parts, technical manuals, documentation, and the qualifications of the personnel who perform these services.

American Science and Engineering, Inc. provides OmniView Gantry. The Technology is a high-energy X-ray system that identifies threat items in cargo containers. The Technology may optionally include the integration of a third-party radiation detector. For this optional component, the Seller provides only integration services. The Technology otherwise includes the following: 1) site survey and installation services; 2) operator training (including equipment use training and image analysis training); 3) warranty and preventative maintenance services; 4) the trained personnel who provide all technical, maintenance, and training services; and, 5) all technical documentation.

American Science and Engineering, Inc. provides X-Ray Inspection Systems. The Technology is a set of devices that utilize the same core principles to inspect objects for possible terrorist threats. There are two major lines of devices: the ParcelSearch systems, which are used to scan packages and the mobile systems which, are used to scan cargo and vehicles. The Technology also includes: installation, maintenance, training, warranty, spare parts, technical documentation, and all qualified personnel.
