Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. The Technology is a portable Bacillus anthracis (anthrax) detection system using self-contained polymerase chain reaction (PCR) cartridges for sample preparation and testing. It is deployed as part of the U.S. Postal Service’s Biohazard Detection System, which is a biological pathogen point detection system configured to screen for the presence of anthrax in mailrooms.

Cepheid provides GeneXpert® (the "Technology"). The Technology is an Anthrax identification system, which uses polymerase chain reaction ("PCR") to amplify the genes of a given sample. The systems self contained cartridges house the PCR reagents and protect the user from cross contamination. The Technology also includes installation and maintenance as outlined in Cepheid's GeneXpert® Field System Operator Manual.

Approved: August 16, 2011 | Expires: September 30, 2016

Cepheid, Inc. provides GeneXpert®. The Technology is an Anthrax identification system, which uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to amplify the genes of a given sample. Cepheid provides the GeneXpert®, a portable biological-agent identification system that integrates sample preparation, gene amplification and rapid detection.
