The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. Science Applications International Corporation (“SAIC”) provides the Radiation Portal Monitor System (“AT-980 System”) (the “Technology”). The Technology is a device that uses gamma-ray and neutron detection modules to passively monitor closed, moving vehicles, containers, and/or railcars for the presence of radioactive materials. In particular, it can be used to detect the presence of special nuclear material and radiological dispersal devices. The Technology also includes warranty and maintenance services, installation and operation services, and the qualification of the personnel providing the Technology.


Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc.

Approved: January 25, 2011 | Expires: February 29, 2016

Reveal Imaging Technologies, Inc., and Science Applications International Corporation provide the CT-80 and CT-80DR Explosives Detection Systems (EDSs). The Technology is used to screen items, such as checked airline baggage, for the presence of explosives. It is based on compact, dual-energy computed tomography (CT). Additionally, algorithms used in the Technology software reconstruct an item's contents and analyze the contents for the presence of explosives in an automated manner. SAFETY Act protections apply to models of the Technology that the U.S. Transportation Security Administration has certified as EDSs.

The Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) provides the Security System Integration Services. The Technology is provided to the government at all levels, as well as port authorities, airports, and other critical infrastructures. The Technology consists of: Site Surveys and Security Needs Assessments, System Design, Engineering & Integration Services, Equipment Analysis & Selection Process, Operations and Maintenance Services, and selection of Subcontractors. All used to provide a real-time integrated security system that can be networked into a customer’s existing protocols. The Technology also includes all related technical documentation, manuals, customer training, and qualified personnel.

Science Applications International Corporation’s Pulsed Elemental Analysis with Neutrons systems utilizes pulses of fast and thermal neutrons for neutron stimulated gamma-ray spectroscopy technology to inspect materials for the presence of explosives, chemicals, and radioactive material.

SAIC's Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System (VACIS®) is a non-intrusive inspection tool used to create 2-dimensional radioscopic images of large vehicles, cargo containers, palletized cargo, and other bulk cargo.  Operating as a density imager against the threat posed by Weapons of Mass Destruction, smuggling of stowaways, and conventional weapons, VACIS® detects threats through the projection of shapes, objects, or densities that are inconsistent with customs declarations and shipping documents.
