Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. The Technology consists of maintenance, repair, and technical support services provided to ensure that screening equipment, such as that deployed at airports and other high–security buildings, is available for threat detection and functions properly. Supported screening systems include Explosive Trace Detectors, cabinet X–ray–based systems, Enhanced Metal Detectors, Explosives Detection Systems, and Advanced Spectroscopic Portals. Elements of the Technology include: field and preventive maintenance–performed in strict conformance with manufacturer and customer requirements–and support services for screening systems; service provider training; and technical documents and manuals.
