Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

Smiths Detection Inc. Approved: January 31, 2023 | Expires: January 31, 2028 Smiths Detection Inc. provides HI-SCAN® 6040 CTiX Checkpoint Computed Tomography (CT) X-Ray Screening System. The Technology allows the screening of airline passengers and others in order to scan and detect potentially dangerous material that could be used to harm others. The Technology also includes associated software; installation; life cycle support (includes post-sales support such as troubleshooting, maintenance and repair; ongoing tech support; ongoing training; service bulletins; documentation updates, etc.); training; quality control / quality assurance / warranty program; manuals, instructions, bulletins and other communications, and other documentation (including technical communications, support manuals, training manuals, maintenance manuals, schedules, procedures, including any and all forms of printed, electronic, or other media).
Smiths Detection US Holdings LLC Approved: April 05, 2022 | Expires: April 30, 2027 Smiths Detection Inc. provides CTX™ Explosives Detection Systems. The Technology consists of seven models of explosives detection systems (EDS) that use X-ray imaging, computed tomography imaging, and software algorithms to screen items in an automated manner for the presence of explosives. The Technology is primarily used to screen airline checked baggage. The Technology also includes are customer-specific support services associated with the Technology’s deployment and maintenance.
Smiths Detection, Inc. Approved: November 26, 2018 | Expires: December 31, 2023 Smiths Detection Inc. provides Smiths Detection Service Operations (the "Technology"). The Technology is support services for the maintenance of its own X-ray screening and explosive trace detection systems in use by customers. The Technology includes on-site and in-house services such as repairs, warehousing, training, spare parts and helpdesk support.
Smiths Detection, Inc. Approved: December 27, 2017 | Expires: January 31, 2023 Smiths Detection Inc. provides HI-SCAN Small CCX-RAY (the "Technology"). The Technology is a line of X-ray-based threat detector systems. These systems are used to screen for potential threats and other contraband in cargo, luggage, or parcels at airports and other transportation facilities, government buildings and facilities, courthouses, nuclear power plants, military installations, and other secure facilities. The Technology also includes associated software; installation; life cycle support (includes post-sales support such as troubleshooting, maintenance and repair; ongoing tech support; ongoing training; service bulletins; documentation updates, etc.); training; quality control / quality assurance / warrantee program; manuals, instructions, bulletins and other communications, and other documentation (including technical communications, support manuals, training manuals, maintenance manuals, schedules, procedures; including any and all forms of printed, electronic, or other media).
Smiths Detection US Holdings LLC Approved: July 12, 2017 | Expires: January 31, 2022 Smiths Detection US Holdings, LLC and Smiths Detection Inc. provide Integrated Logistics Support (“ILS”) Services (the “Technology”). The Technology is the establishment, implementation, and maintenance of an ILS program to sustain Government-certified Explosives Detection Systems (“EDS”), Multiplexing Equipment (“MUX”), and associated Uninterruptible Power Supply (“UPS”) as deployed and operated by the Transportation Security Administration (“TSA”).
Smiths Detection Inc. Approved: October 26, 2016 | Expires: November 30, 2021 Smiths Detection, Inc. provides HI-SCAN CCX-RAY (the “Technology”). The Technology is a collection of X-ray inspection systems used to screen cargo and freight packages. The devices use transmission X-ray imaging methodology, together with software-based image analysis, to detect potential threats and present them to the operator through a graphical interface. The Technology also includes software, installation, life cycle support, training, warrantee program, manuals, bulletins, and other communications.
Smiths Detection Inc. Approved: August 13, 2013 | Expires: September 30, 2016 Smiths Detection, Inc. provides eqo™ (the “Technology”). The Technology is a flat-panel millimeter-wave body-imaging scanner used for detecting hidden objects under clothing at security checkpoints. The Technology also includes maintenance and training services, technical documents and manuals, associated software, lifecycle support, quality control, quality assurance, and a warrantee program.
Smiths Detection Inc. Approved: May 19, 2011 | Expires: June 30, 2016 Smiths Detection Inc. provides the Protect System. The Technology is an early warning, crisis management system designed to operate in various settings such as subways, transportation terminals, and buildings. The Technology also includes selection criteria for various commercial-off-the-shelf devices, command and control hardware and software, and integration capabilities with existing infrastructure.
