Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

Safety Technologies, Inc., provides its Detonation Suppression System (DSS) an aluminum alloy mesh material designed to fill fuel and chemical storage tanks and lessen the effects of punctures, fires, or explosions.


Quatrotec Inc.: Baggage and Cargo Handling System (BCHS)

Quatrotec, Inc., provides its Baggage and Cargo Handling System. The Technology is used to develop, design, construct, and commission in-line baggage and cargo handling systems at airports. The Technology aids in the screening of plane-bound baggage and cargo for concealed weapons or explosives through the use of advanced technologies including, but not limited to, X-ray, millimeter wave, computed tomography (CT), and explosive trade detection devices.


Dow Chemical Corporation: Dow Chemical Facility Security Services

Approved: June 26, 2007 | Expires: July 31, 2012

The Dow Chemical Corporation provides The Dow Chemical Facility Security Services, a comprehensive set of services designed to enhance security and protect key assets. The Designation covers those Dow Chemical facilities where the Technology is deployed and that were determined by the Coast Guard to be compliant with the security guidelines established under the Maritime Transportation Security Act of 2002, P.L. 107-295, as implemented by 33 C.F.R. Part 105 (2007). Dow’s Technology includes security vulnerability assessments, protection of secure assets, protection of proprietary information and cyber security, emergency preparedness and response services, and involvement of local communities in the deployment of the Technology. It also includes and ongoing security and audit process.


Isonics Corporation: EnviroSecure© Detection System models 5100 and 5700

The Isonics Corporation provides the EnviroSecure© Detection System for the detection of toxic industrial chemicals and chemical warfare agents.


Defense Group, Inc.: Chemical Biological Response Aide (CoBRA®) Software

Approved: June 01, 2007 | Expires: July 31, 2012

Defense Group, Inc. provides the Chemical Biological Response Aide (CoBRA®) Software. The Technology is an emergency response, planning, management, training, and exercise program. It provides decision support tools and data for a variety of emergency incidents including the aftermath by the use of a Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD).


Nomadics, Inc.: Fido®

Nomadics, Inc., provides the Fido® line of portable trace explosives detectors.


IBM Corporation: Automated Commercial Environment (ACE)

Approved: May 24, 2007 | Expires: June 30, 2012

The IBM Corporation provides the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). ACE is an integrated system of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software, hardware and infrastructure merged with custom built software. ACE is designed to provide the capability to access data in the international supply chain to anticipate, identify, track, and intercept high-risk shipments.


Hospital Shared Services, Inc.: Security Services

Hospital Shared Services, Inc., provides Security Services. These services include trained security personnel to prevent the introduction of explosives, weapons, and unauthorized personnel into secured facilities and venues.


Centerpoint Manufacturing, Inc.: Blast Resistant Trash Receptacles

Approved: April 13, 2007 | Expires: May 31, 2012

Centerpoint Manufacturing, Inc., provides Blast Resistant Trash Receptacles. These triple walled receptacles are designed to withstand multiple-location, full capacity explosions from a pipe bomb, grenade, improvised explosive device or military grade explosive compounds.


Canberra Industries, Inc.: Advanced Spectroscopic Portal

Canberra Industries Inc. provides the Advanced Spectroscopic Portal, a passive radiation detection portal suitable for examining cargo containers, trucks, privately owned vehicles, mail, and bundled cargo. The Technology is intended to detect threat objects including Improvised Nuclear Devices (INDs), Special Nuclear Material (SNM), and Radiological Dispersal Devices. The Technology can discriminate innocent radiating materials from dangerous nuclear materials.
