Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

ISOVAC Products LLC.: CAPSULS™ portable Patient Isolation Unit

ISOVAC Products LLC provides the CAPSULS™ portable Patient Isolation Unit (the “Technology”). The Technology is a portable Patient Isolation Unit (PIU), which prevents particulate (biological and radiological) cross-contamination between the patient and the external environment; and with features that enable medical intervention to the patient via end-user-supplied medical equipment. The Technology also includes user’s manual.


Core Engineered Solutions, Inc.: ConVault Aboveground Storage Tank

Core Engineered Solutions, Inc., provides the ConVault Aboveground Storage Tank. The Technology is an aboveground fuel storage tank used to store petroleum products and comprises an inner steel tank encased in a reinforced monolithic concrete enclosure. The Technology is designed to withstand the impact of a vehicle or ammunition in accordance with the Underwriters Laboratories 2085 Standard and carries the Underwriters Laboratories Listing Mark. Additionally, the Technology is designed to withstand the effects of blast pressures typical of a man-portable improvised explosive device detonated at a standoff distance of 5 feet or a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device detonated at a standoff distance of 20 feet. The Technology includes a warranty; inspection and maintenance performed by the user in accordance with Seller recommendations; and associated technical documents.


JPS Communications: Audio Control Unit (ACU) product line

JPS Communications, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Raytheon Company, provides the Audio Control Unit (ACU) product line, which consists of the ACU-1000, the ACU-2000 IP, the ACU-M, the ACU-T, and the TRP-1000 (the “Technology”). The Technology allows existing, disparate communications systems to cross-connect with each other. The Technology also includes customer training services, warranty services, and all technical manuals.


Underwriters Laboratories, Inc.

Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. - Conformity Assessment, Testing, Training, and Standards Development Services. The Technology is a set of services designed to help ensure public safety related to products, materials, or systems with the objective of preventing, detecting, identifying or deterring Acts of Terrorism or limiting the harm that such acts might cause. Qualifications of personnel, hiring, screening, training, and the procedures used in the provision of the Technology are all included as part of the Technology.


L. Robert Kimball & Associates, Inc.: Voice and Data Network Services

Approved: December 17, 2008 | Expires: January 31, 2014

L. Robert Kimball & Associates, Inc., provides offers Voice and Data Network Services. The Technology is designed to provide consulting and engineering services for communications systems, such as: 9-1-1 systems, Radio communications systems, Public warning systems, Microwave systems, Data networks, and for Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) systems. The Technology also includes assessment of existing systems, concept planning and design of new or replacement systems, Implementation and integration of systems, and testing of installed systems.


ABM Security Services, Inc

ABM Security Services, Inc. - Security Guard Services. The Technology consists of a variety of services including facility security and access control, unarmed and armed security patrol, security against terror and bio-terror threats, and community first response capabilities. The security officers as well as management, supervision, training, and equipment are all included in the Technology.


Analogic Corporation: Carry-On Baggage Real-Time Assessment (COBRA)

Analogic Corporation provides the Carry-On Baggage Real-Time Assessment (COBRA), an automated explosives and weapons detection system for the screening of carry-on items at screening checkpoints. The Technology uses volumetric Computer Tomography (CT)-based Xrays and detection algorithms to scan evaluate objects and detects a variety of threats, and displays high-resolution, 3-D bag images for on-screen resolution.


Elemental Innovation, Inc.: HALO Maritime Security Barrier System

Elemental Innovation, Inc., d/b/a HALO Maritime Defense Systems provides the HALO Barrier System. The Technology is a waterborne barrier system that prevents access to maritime assets by small surface vessels. The Technology also includes inspections of component parts after delivery by the manufacturer(s) and before it completes assembly, as well as after assembly.


Heyltex Corporation

Approved: November 17, 2008 | Expires: November 30, 2013

Heyltex Corporation is a distributor of Radiogardase®, an encapsulated insoluble powder for the treatment of known or suspected radioactive contamination of people over the age of two. The Technology is designed to decrease the radiation exposure from radioactive cesium, radioactive thallium, or non-radioactive cesium contaminations. It does this by increasing the rate of elimination of the indicated isotopes.


Ahura Scientific, Inc.: FirstDefenderTM

Approved: November 05, 2008 | Expires: December 31, 2013

Ahura Scientific, Inc. provides the FirstDefenderTM. The Technology is a hand-held system designed to identify solid and liquid chemical materials and mixtures, including chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals, and explosives. The Technology also includes training, training materials, the operators’ manual, software updates, the software update procedure, and other essential accessories for the Technology’s operation.
