Approved Technologies

The SAFETY Act provides two levels of liability protections for approval: Designation and Certification. By obtaining either Designation or Certification, companies obtain a level of legal protection in case their technology is ever put to use during a terrorist attack. See below for a list of approved technology certifications.

Approved: January 23, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2019

Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. and Expeditors International (Puerto Rico) Inc., provide Certified Cargo Screening Facilities (the "Technology"). The Technology is Certified Cargo Screening Facilities, designed to aid in meeting the congressional mandate that 100 percent of cargo placed on passenger airplanes be screened. The Technology includes, and provides, screeners and programmatic personnel for the screening of cargo in accordance with the Transportation Security Administration (“TSA”)’s Certified Cargo Screening Program at TSA-approved Certified Cargo Screening Facilities.


The National Fire Protection Association, Inc. (“NFPA”)

Approved: January 23, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2019

The National Fire Protection Association, Inc. (“NFPA”) is an American National Standards Institute (“ANSI”) Accredited Standards Development Organization that has developed NFPA/American National Standards using the NFPA Codes and Standards Development Process, which meets the requirements of due process and criteria for approval and withdrawal of American National Standards (the “Technology”). The Technology is a set of codes and standards that address anti-terrorism technologies in the areas of personal protective garments, equipment, professional qualifications for first responders, and for preparedness planning for infrastructure and enterprise protection, fire protection systems, and for critical electrical and building systems.


Thermo Scientific, Portable Analytical Instruments, Inc.

Approved: January 17, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2019

Thermo Scientific, Portable Analytical Instruments, Inc. provides AhuraFD (the “Technology”). The Technology is a hand-held system designed to identify solid and liquid chemical materials and mixtures, including chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals, pesticides, and explosives. The Technology also includes training, training materials, operators’ manual, software updates, the software update procedure, and accessories essential to the operation of the Technology.


Image Insight, Inc.

Approved: January 10, 2014 | Expires: February 28, 2017

Image Insight, Inc. provides GammaPix™ (the “Technology”). The Technology is software that can be installed onto computer or mobile devices such as phones and tablets for use in detecting gamma radiation. The software works with most digital cameras to identify gamma rays emitted from a radioactive source. The Technology also includes attendant manuals and support services.


Advanced Ground Information Systems, Inc. ("AGIS, Inc.")

Approved: December 31, 2013 | Expires: January 31, 2019

Advanced Ground Information Systems, Inc. (“AGIS, Inc.”) provides LifeRing (the “Technology”). LifeRing is a software application that enables Smartphone, PC and Tablet users to establish secure ad hoc Common Operational Picture networks in response to situations where many people need to coordinate and collaborate with many others. The Technology has the capability to facilitate voice, photo, streaming video and text communications. The Technology includes operator manuals and training videos.


SimplexGrinnell LP

Approved: December 31, 2013 | Expires: February 28, 2019

SimplexGrinnell LP provides Security, Fire, and Life Safety Systems Integration Services (the “Technology”). The Technology is a set of integration services pertaining to security, fire, and life safety systems that deter, prevent, detect, alert, and respond to a variety of security and life safety threats. The Technology includes coverage for the hiring and training of the qualified personnel who perform these services, training of the customer on the systems installed, as well as all documentation related to such services.


American Science & Engineering, Inc.

Approved: December 31, 2013 | Expires: January 31, 2019

American Science and Engineering, Inc. provides the Z Portal (the “Technology”). The Technology is an X-ray based cargo and vehicle screening and inspection system. The Technology includes installation; operator, maintenance, and “train the trainer” training; warranty and maintenance services; spare parts; technical manuals and documentation; and the qualifications of the personnel who perform these services.


XploSafe, LLC

Approved: December 20, 2013 | Expires: January 31, 2017

XploSafe, LLC provides XploSens (the “Technology”). The Technology is a screening liquid that allows first responders and emergency personnel to determine if suspicious powders contain explosives or explosive ingredients. It is a liquid-based nanoparticulate suspension in the form of inks or test strips designed to aid the rapid detection of improvised chlorate-based explosives; Sprengel explosives; strong oxidizers; peroxide -based explosives, including Triacetone Triperoxide ("TATP"), Hexamethylene Triperoxide Diamine ("HMTD"); hydrogen peroxide plastic explosives; and other explosive ingredients.


New Meadowlands Stadium Company, LLC

Approved: December 20, 2013 | Expires: January 31, 2019

New Meadowlands Stadium Company, LLC provides the MetLife Stadium Security Program (the “Technology”). The Technology is an integrated security program composed of physical and electronic security measures, policies and procedures, and personnel, designed to detect, deter, prevent, respond to, and mitigate Acts of Terrorism for use exclusively at Met Life Stadium, inclusive of the Stadium and parking lots, during National Football League (“NFL”) Game Days, Non-Game Days, and Special Events.


Applied Engineering Management ("AEM") Corporation

Approved: December 18, 2013 | Expires: January 31, 2017

Applied Engineering Management (“AEM”) Corporation provides the Program to Assist Risk and Resilience Examination (“PARRE”) software application (the “Technology”). The Technology is a software tool to assist facility operators in completing an all-hazards risk and resilience analysis of water sector critical infrastructure. The Technology incorporates the American Water Works Association’s standard for Risk and Resilience Management of Drinking Water and Wastewater Systems (“ANSI/AWWA J100-10”). The Technology also includes an integrated user’s guide.
